DIY Blueberry Liqueur Step 1
Ever since our community has chosen to go haywire over buggy strawberries, blueberries have been left alone. I hope it stays that way. The convenience of picking up a bag of frozen blueberries have made blueberry pie a beautiful staple.
But as pie season is coming to a close, there was an extra pound of frozen blueberries without a home. The setup here is for the infusion. After a month or so, it will need to be thickened. Normally, a simple sugar syrup will do, but the berries might already have enough sugar so I might just use a little glycerine. Tasting note follow ups soon to follow.
So grab some berries, vodka and an empty jelly jar and this recipe is as easy as…
16 oz of frozen blueberries =Blended, this is about 12 oz
12 oz of vodka- choose a creamier grain vodka
1/2 tbsp lemon zest = 1/2 lemon
1/2 tbsp orange zest = 1/2 naval orange
Blend the blueberries, add to the vodka and zest and place in a jar. This recipe can take on alot of different flavor profiles. Cloves, Cinnamon and other pie liek spices would go well. Gin would a be a nice citrusy touch. Whiskey or bourbon with blueberries is also a great match. This is a gift for someone who just likes blueberries, so I kept it simple.
Store in a cool area away from the sunlight. Start tasting after a week. I plan on letting this go for a month before I add the thickeners.
